Assessment Approach

The assessment process is comprehensive and considers:

  • Developmental history
  • Current symptoms and functional impact
  • Psychological and medical context
  • Possible alternative explanations

Assessment Process

  1. First Consultation (60 minutes)

A detailed clinical interview covering:

  • Childhood and developmental background
  • Attention, organisation, and executive functioning
  • Impact on work, study, and relationships
  • Screening for other contributing conditions

If ADHD appears unlikely at this stage, further assessment may not be required.

  1. Between Consultations

Where appropriate, additional information may be requested, including:

  • Structured questionnaires
  • Collateral history (if relevant)
  1. Second Consultation (60 minutes)
  • Review of all gathered information
  • Application of current diagnostic criteria
  • Discussion of outcome (diagnosis may or may not be made)

If ADHD is confirmed, treatment options can be discussed, including:

  • Medication
  • Non-pharmacological strategies
Important Notes
    • Not everyone assessed will meet criteria for ADHD
    • Alternative explanations and tailored recommendations will be provided where relevant
